About The Position

Emplify Health by Gundersen’s 47th Annual Summer Nurse Internship is a paid, 10-week program running May 24 through August 1, 2027. It is designed to help nursing students transition from classroom learning to professional nursing practice by building confidence, strengthening clinical skills, and providing hands-on exposure to patient care, clinical judgment, interdisciplinary communication, and critical thinking. Nurse interns work alongside experienced nurses and healthcare professionals, are immersed in one clinical area, and may observe or shadow other areas of nursing. Interns are matched with departments based on their interests, availability, and strengths. The possible placement listed is an Acute Care Unit that includes Medical/Surgical and Emergency Services. Exceptional interns may be considered for continued employment opportunities and future RN positions after graduation. The internship requires availability for 60 hours per two-week pay period across day, PM, and night shifts, including weekends and holidays, and completion of the full program duration.

Requirements

• Be on track to graduate from an associate or baccalaureate nursing program by December 2027 or May 2028.
• Hold at least one active certification or license: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician–Basic (EMT-B), Emergency Medical Technician–Paramedic (EMT-P), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Hold current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross, including hands-on training.
• Be available to work 60 hours per two-week pay period across all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Be able to complete the full duration of the internship.
• Submit an online application and upload CPR and CNA/LPN/EMT certifications.
• Attach a resume that includes high school graduation date and anticipated nursing program graduation date.
• Attach a 300–500 word recommended response reflecting on a person, experience, or event that influenced the desire to become a nurse and explaining its impact on goals, values, or approach to patient care.

Responsibilities

• Participate in an assigned clinical area and explore other areas of nursing through observation and shadowing opportunities.
