About The Position

Emplify Health by Gundersen’s 47th Annual Nurse Internship Program is a paid, 10-week summer experience designed to help nursing students bridge classroom learning and professional nursing practice. The program runs from May 24 through August 1, 2027. Interns work alongside experienced nurses and healthcare professionals to gain hands-on experience in patient care, clinical judgment, interdisciplinary communication, and critical thinking. Each intern is immersed in one clinical area and may explore other areas of nursing through observation and shadowing. Exceptional interns may be considered for continued employment and future RN positions after graduation.

Requirements

• Be on track to graduate from an associate or baccalaureate nursing program by December 2027 or May 2028.
• Hold at least one active certification or license: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B), Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Have current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross, including hands-on training.
• Be available to work 60 hours per two-week pay period across all shifts, including weekends and holidays, and complete the full internship.
• Submit an online application, CPR and CNA/LPN/EMT certifications, a resume including high school and anticipated nursing program graduation dates, and a response to the application essay prompt.
• Attend an in-person interview at the Hillsboro campus if invited.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience in patient care while working alongside experienced nurses and healthcare professionals.
• Develop clinical judgment, interdisciplinary communication, and critical-thinking skills.
• Work within an assigned clinical area and participate in observation and shadowing opportunities in other areas of nursing.
• Complete the full duration of the internship and work 60 hours per two-week pay period across days, PMs, nights, weekends, and holidays.
