About The Position

The Nurse Extern works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing multi-skilled duties within the limits of training and certification in caring for the patient. This role assists the nursing team with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary for the personal needs, comfort, and safety of patients. Responsibilities include assisting patients with personal hygiene, dressing, and walking, changing bed linens, and assisting with patient transportation to tests and procedures. The extern may also serve and collect food trays, provide nourishment, and record temperature or vital signs under the direction of a nurse. PRN status means the extern is not guaranteed a fixed schedule or hours and must be available to work at least 12 hours every two weeks. Actual hours will depend on department needs, and the extern may be asked to pick up extra shifts.

Requirements

Currently enrolled Nursing Student in an accredited Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) program.
Basic Life Support with American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

Must be available to work at least 12 hours every two weeks (bi-weekly minimum).
Actual hours will depend on department needs.
May be asked to pick up extra shifts to cover gaps (like call-outs or shortages).
