About The Position

Non-physician student professional nurse. The Nurse Extern renders individualized, age-specific, and indirect bedside nursing care based on the nursing process and under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a school of nursing at the senior level.
• Successful completion of three semesters of nursing school (entering last semester/block).
• Required to submit at least two letters of recommendation and skills checklist documentation from nursing instructor.
• CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Observes, reports and responds to the patients’ physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety/risk and discharge planning needs on admission and on an ongoing basis.
• Performs direct patient care activities according to the plan of care and as directed by RN.
• Recognizes early and subtle changes in patient condition and reports status to RN.
• Transitions care of patient by reporting patient status, individual patient needs, plan of care, current treatments and unfinished orders.
• Documents patient vital signs, I&O, height/weight and ADLs.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
• Shares responsibility for organizing supplies, tracking, stocking and storing equipment and keeping the department clean and organized.
• Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
