About The Position
The Nurse Extern I is a member of the patient care services team whose primary responsibilities include technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The Nurse Extern I works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the extern’s skills and abilities. The extern reports deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. Specific patient care tasks may vary by unit or service line based on the patient population. Students hired as Nurse Extern I perform the duties of a patient care technician or equivalent role.
Requirements
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course through an accredited school of nursing.
- Students must successfully pass all courses to remain in the program.

- Carry out tasks delegated by a registered nurse based on patient needs and the extern’s skills and abilities.
- Report deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
