About The Position

This job posting is for the 2026-2027 school year for the RRPS Student Services Department. It is a 190-day contract position for a Nurse Educator. The role involves coordinating and facilitating new school nurse and health assistant orientation, providing ongoing support and education, overseeing the school nurse mentor program, and ensuring continuing education and professional development for school nurses. The Nurse Educator will assess learning needs, develop and deliver professional development, and serve on committees. Responsibilities also include providing training in school health and safety, first aid, and health screening skills, as well as managing emergency preparedness like AED drills. Collaboration with nursing leadership is key for improving nursing practice, developing clinical guidelines, and supporting initiatives for safe, high-quality, and equitable student health services. The role involves evaluating the effectiveness of professional development and mentorship programs, recommending improvements, and tracking various trainings and certifications. Specific training will be provided on specialized health procedures. The position requires participation in in-service training, maintaining BLS CPR certification, and fostering professional communication with students, parents, and staff. Compliance with state regulations and district policies is mandatory. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Valid national school nursing certification from the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN)
  • Valid New Mexico registered nurse license issued by the New Mexico Board of Nursing or, a compact registered nursing license from another state according to New Mexico nursing board rule
  • Current New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) License Level III PreK-12 Supervisory School Nurse, or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and facilitates the new school nurse and health assistant orientation
  • Provides ongoing support, education, and resources to new school nurses and health assistants to promote clinical competence, confidence, and retention
  • Oversees the school nurse mentor program including mentor selection and training
  • Obtains and maintains continuing education and professional development for school nurses
  • Assess learning needs of school nurses and develops, coordinates, and delivers continuing professional development opportunities aligned with district priorities and regulatory requirements
  • Serves on committees and attends required meetings and conferences
  • Provides education and training in school health and safety to nurses and health assistants
  • Provides training in first aid and health screening skills to health assistants
  • Provides emergency management including planning and executing AED drills in the schools
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership to support continuous improvement of nursing practice using evidence-based literature and data driven strategies
  • Assists with development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical guidelines, protocols, and best practice resources
  • Supports initiatives that promote safe, high-quality, and equitable student health services
  • Evaluates effectiveness of professional development programs and mentorship initiatives through feedback, outcome data, and quality improvement processes
  • Recommends improvements based on evaluation findings and district needs
  • Track ongoing annual and new hire trainings including skills checklists and Safe Schools trainings
  • Track nurse expiration dates for Board of Nursing license and BLS certifications
  • Track health assistant expiration dates for CPR certifications
  • Train nurses on specialized health procedures and care including, but not limited to, G-tubes, diabetes management, seizures, asthma, and severe allergies
  • Participates in in-service training programs, workshops, and continuing education to maintain professional status
  • Maintains current BLS CPR certification
  • Maintains communication and professional rapport with students, parents, and staff
  • Complies with NMSA 24-1-4
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment
