About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183-bed acute care and residential facility that has been providing behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents for over 30 years. The facility offers programs for active duty military and is located in Petersburg, Virginia. The Nurse Educator is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating an organized program for staff education, directed toward the achievement of professional excellence. This role serves as the primary contact person for nursing, professional, and support services staff education and establishes professional education resources and instructional leadership for outreach programs directed to health care professionals. Hours will vary, requiring flexibility in availability.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Minimum of (2) years’ experience as an RN required
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a psychiatric hospital setting or related professional setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA State and Federal regulations
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning
