Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree required
  • New York Registered Nurse (RN) License & Registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • 5+ Years of RN acute care nursing experience

  • BCLS Instructor certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized clinical expertise and skill, acting as a support person and role model for the nursing staff.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to staff in the application of relevant research findings to practice.
  • Assess clinical skills and learning needs of the nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with leadership and nursing preceptors in evaluating and promoting development amongst the nursing staff.
  • Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and standards of patient care relevant to clinical practice.
  • Manage education of staff, including employees' orientation to the unit, standards of care, and competencies.
  • Design, plan, and implement a criteria-based staff development program to meet the clinical needs of all nursing care team members.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the overall orientation and continuing education programs for the Nursing department.
  • Take an active role in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education and patient education programs, and other educational projects as requested.
  • Actively participate in unit departmental and interdisciplinary programs, meetings and conferences to assist with changing trends in the delivery of patient care.
  • Engage in unit specific performance improvement initiatives and assist in addressing knowledge deficits identified through unit-based monitoring.
  • Participate in the orientation and onboarding of new staff, providing education, guidance, and support to promote safe clinical practice, competency development, and adherence to departmental and organizational standards.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with current Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) guidelines and integrate evidence-based standards into operating room and recovery room education, clinical practice, and staff competency development.
