About The Position

This position is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for assigned areas. The role assures the quality of patient care and clinical practice progression through the assessment, coaching, and development of nursing staff and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. This includes all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive. The specialist also participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for the entire Nursing Department and specifically for Employee Health Services. The role involves collaborating with the leadership team in strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance the competence, autonomy, and accountability of the nursing staff. Additionally, the specialist acts as a member of the nursing leadership team, participates in interview panels, orientation, and annual regulatory and clinical competency requirements. They promote a culture of safety, report on Safety Intelligence Reports, and are responsible for the initial review and investigation of these reports, escalating serious reportable events immediately to the Nurse Manager. The position also involves coordinating the assignment of tasks, resolving technical and operational problems, and providing effective direction, guidance, and leadership to the staff.

Requirements

  • Three years of direct hospital care management experience within the past 8 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • Currently holds an active RN license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification.
  • At least 3 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1 year experience in clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
  • Frequent use of the computer, keyboard and printer; educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.; and reading of printed materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Case Manager Certification.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching.
  • Process improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting on all entered Safety Intelligence Reports, conducting initial reviews and investigations, and escalating serious reportable events immediately.
