About The Position

This is a full-time, 40-hour position located at the Main Campus in Boston. This exceptional leadership opportunity is for an experienced and accomplished Nurse Director of Labor & Delivery and Antenatal Services committed to advancing maternal and fetal care. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence care for some of the most complex maternal and neonatal patients at a nationally recognized academic medical center. As part of the Mary Horrigan Connors Center for Women’s Health, this role supports a high volume, high acuity service that delivers more babies than any other hospital in the region and provides specialized care for high risk, complex, and multiple pregnancies. The institution is nationally recognized for pioneering in utero procedures, lifesaving prenatal interventions, and advanced fetal monitoring techniques that shape modern obstetric practice. It is home to the largest NICU in Massachusetts and is a founding member of Mass General Brigham, a world-class academic health system. The opportunity involves leading one of the region's most advanced inpatient obstetric programs, overseeing a 23-bed Labor & Delivery Unit, a 12-bed Antenatal Unit, 4 Obstetric Operating Rooms, and 8 Obstetric Triage Rooms. The position provides strategic, operational, financial, and clinical leadership, partnering closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary leaders to advance care and ensure a caring, healing, and collaborative environment. The role will shape the future of maternal-fetal nursing care within a nationally recognized medical center.

Requirements

  • Current registration/licensure in nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • MSN, DNP, PhD, or BSN with a Master's degree in a related field, required.
  • Current certification required or to be attained within two years from date of hire. Certification must be maintained while employed in this position.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in Women's Health.
  • Demonstrated evidence of exemplary nursing practice in Labor and Delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years labor and delivery nursing experience preferred.
  • Recent experience as a nurse leader responsible for collaboration in a highly matrixed leadership structure helpful.
  • Experience with labor relations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall clinical, operational, financial, and strategic direction of Labor & Delivery and Antenatal Service.
  • Foster an environment of inclusivity, collaboration, psychological safety, trust and respect for patients, families, and interdisciplinary clinicians and colleagues.
  • Drive quality improvement, safety, patient-experience, and exceptional clinical outcomes as well as compliance, and accreditation readiness.
  • Contribute to developing, refining, implementing Department of Nursing vision, practice model and aligning with MGB goals.
  • Collaborate in creation annual operating budgets, including proposals for new initiatives, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Lead workforce engagement, recruitment, retention, team building, and succession planning.
  • Mentor and develop nursing leaders and frontline staff.
  • Design and adapt staffing to be responsive to dynamic care environment.
  • Responsible for the supervision of an assistant nurse director, registered nurses, surgical technicians and others as directed.
  • Partner closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary leaders to advance care and ensure a caring, healing and collaborative environment.
  • Creates an environment that supports and celebrates the professional growth of nursing practice at all levels of experience.
  • Advance evidence-based practice, innovation, and nursing scholarship.
