About The Position

As a Nurse Consultant in the Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section, the main responsibility is to conduct on-site reviews of all nurse aide training and competency evaluation programs, determine program irregularities, and recommend sanctions as appropriate to achieve federal and/or state compliance. Other responsibilities include recommending state-approval or disapproval of nurse aide training programs, developing, revising and reviewing competency-based nurse aide curricula and test items, evaluating appropriateness of educational and instructional materials pertaining to or used by nurse aide training and competency evaluation programs, and facilitating training and program activities via meetings and workshops. This position will act in a consultative capacity with responsibility for recommending program improvement, providing both on-site and off-site assistance to nursing educators and others, and investigating complaints about state-approved nurse aide training and competency evaluation programs. Position also has primary responsibility for ensuring that federal enforcement regulations and state regulations and guidelines are being followed by those entities that offer nurse aide training and competency evaluation. This position will be located in the Western Region and may work in the Raleigh office every quarter or as needed. This position will be required to travel throughout the following counties Cherokee, Haywood, Macon, Henderson, McDowell, Mitchell, Burke, Caldwell, Wilkes, Ashe, Yadkin, Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry and surrounding counties (may be subject to change), including some overnight stays. Use of personal vehicle may be required and compensated at the NC Office of State Budget and Management's established mileage rates.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
  • One year of experience in the area of specialization.

Nice To Haves

  • Significant coursework or experience in curriculum design and development and test item writing.
  • Experience in nursing and teaching or staff development, preferably with one year in long-term care.
  • Broad base knowledge of the operational aspect of nursing facilities, hospitals, home care agencies, hospices, nursing pools, and adult care homes.
  • Understanding of health care delivery systems, health care issues of the elderly and chronically ill, and particularly issues surrounding nurse aide practice.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate nursing, medical, and educational techniques to school instructors/administrators and health care providers, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather, observe, and analyze program data, including test results and complaints, and use make recommendations to assist programs in improving performance.
  • Ability to organize and work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Windows and MS Office products.
  • Ability to master new technology and complete work electronically.
