About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a 100% Nurse Clinician to function as a clinical nurse expert and care coordinator for a specific patient population interfacing with administrative, clinical nursing staff, physicians, and patients/families. This role involves providing leadership and oversight for specialized services or populations, applying expertise in a specialized field of nursing to lead efforts to improve nursing quality, and providing specialized health education. The position also requires compliance with internal policies and external regulations for safe and effective care delivery and health profession education, as well as human resource management functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
  • A minimum of 2 years recent OR nursing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstration of commitment to principles of Service Excellence
  • Excellent organization skills; detail oriented
  • Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in planning care for specific patient populations by providing surgery scheduling oversight.
  • Participate in patient management to facilitate preference card accuracy.
  • Participate in reconciliation of surgery charging.
  • Apply expertise in specialized field of nursing to lead efforts to improve nursing quality and other services that support the practice of nursing. Areas of focus are care planning, surgical schedule oversight, charge reconciliation, and documentation audits.
  • Provide specialized health education to health profession students and residents applicable to patients in field of expertise.
  • Communicate detailed, complex medical information to a variety of audiences.
  • Follow and apply policies and meet documentation requirements.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
  • Report variances and work to address them.
  • Recommend policies and/or procedures enhancements that address new and improved care processes.
  • Provide direction, assignments, evaluative feedback, coaching and counseling to staff, students and residents to assure outcomes are achieved.
  • May hire, develop, and manage the performance of staff and assure compliance with UI policies and procedures.
