About The Position

The Nurse Clinician III is a proficient clinician providing outpatient telephone triage care in a surgical specialty. The role requires specialty-area knowledge and skill, competent interdisciplinary teamwork, and predominantly independent, problem-focused, patient-centered decision-making. The nurse must be able to manage commonly encountered contingency, unexpected, and emergency situations within the assigned specialty population and serve as a resource for Nurse Clinician I or II staff.

Patient care is based on the American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Practice and Professional Performance, the Texas Nurse Practice Act, and UTMB policies, procedures, and standards. The role supports the specialty unit’s nursing and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week; the schedule may include occasional weekend hours or rotating weekend coverage based on needs.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN).
• At least two years of clinical RN experience.
• Current Texas license or valid permit to practice in Texas, which must be maintained.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Independently assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document the daily care of assigned patients.
• Identify patient care needs, formulate nursing diagnoses, develop and individualize care plans, and revise plans as needed.
• Execute physician orders for assigned patients.
• Administer medications and treatments and provide culturally congruent, specialty-appropriate nursing care in a caring and compassionate manner, in accordance with UTMB policies, procedures, and standards.
• Independently perform routine and complex technical procedures and skills in the assigned specialty area.
• Manage commonly seen contingency situations and unexpected or emergency situations in the assigned specialty population.
• Serve as a resource for Nurse Clinician I or II staff.
• Function as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
