About The Position

The Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) provides specialized nursing services to patients who may have developed or have a disorder in the genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and/or integumentary systems. They provide specialized holistic assessment and management as an inter-professional team member and participate in professional development, research activities, knowledge translation, and system-level thinking. They provide counselling and education for patients, both independently and in collaboration with the health care team. In consultation with physicians, community counterparts and other health care professionals, they use best practice and guidelines developed by Canadian Association of Enterostomal Therapist and World Ostomy Association to ensure patients are accessing appropriate care to achieve the desired outcomes. The NSWOC integrates skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision of direct client care, clinical consultation, clinical coordination, clinical problems solving skills, education and research.

Requirements

  • Five (5) full time years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • Canadian Nurses Association(CNA)Certification in Wound,Ostomy&Continence WOCC(C)
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Graduate of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Management programs
  • Ability to initiate and exercise critical thinking and decision-making
  • Knowledge in communication strategy, methods and tools
  • Sensitive and understanding of diverse cultural aspects of population served
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice
  • Establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to adapt to ever changing environments
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
  • Ability to evaluate data to problem-solve and lead to quality improvement
  • Knowledge in conflict resolution techniques
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate processes and activities

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations
  • Ability and willingness to travel within service delivery area

  • Knowledge in First Nation and Metis history in Saskatchewan

  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Practices within Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics

  • Experience in developing wound, ostomy, continence programs/tools is an asset
  • Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation is an asset.
