About The Position

The Communicable Disease Control Public Health Nurse works under the direction of the designated Manager or supervisor and is a delegate of the local Medical Health Officer(s) and is accountable for the coordination of public health activities to control and prevent communicable diseases, including surveillance and reporting responsibilities, as outlined in The Public Health Officers Regulations, in addition to The Public Health Act, 1994 and The Disease Control Regulations and Saskatchewan Health directives and policies and other applicable federal legislation. They will coordinate the prevention, planning, and implementation of Communicable Disease Control (CDC) services within the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The CDC PHN conducts investigations and the related follow up of reportable and non-reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, on a day-to-day basis working collaboratively with many internal and external health care professionals/agencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent relevant experience in public health nursing
  • Course credits in community health and public health nursing are required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • Leadership skills
  • Advanced skills in program planning and evaluation
  • Decision making skills
  • Knowledge of research and statistical collection concepts
  • Utilize epidemiological models to explain disease patterns in community health
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing workload
  • Knowledge of communicable disease control practices and procedures
  • Knowledge in population health promotion approaches and community development
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Ability to travel when required
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)

  • Education in infectious diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, is an asset
