Nurse Assistant- Med Surg 12 hour days
About The Position
Powers Health is hiring a Nurse Assistant for the 26-bed medical/surgical 6 West unit at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. The unit has private rooms, including six negative-pressure isolation rooms, and cares for patients with a range of chronic and acute medical/surgical conditions, as well as gynecology overflow patients. Patients are at least 12 years old, with an average age of 63. Approximately 75% of patients are surgical and 25% are general medical patients. The position is scheduled for 12-hour day shifts, from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Nurse Assistant performs designated patient-care activities to meet patients’ personal needs and support their comfort and safety, in accordance with hospital policy and Nursing Service Standards. The role includes assistance with activities of daily living, mobility, nutrition, transfers, and discharges. Requirements
- One year of direct patient-care experience with successful completion of a competency exam, completion of one semester of clinicals in a nursing program, or completion of nursing assistant certification.
- CPR certification.
- Complete annual skill validations and follow safety and infection-control procedures.

Responsibilities
- Perform designated patient-care activities to address patients’ personal needs, comfort, and safety in accordance with hospital policy and Nursing Service Standards.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, ambulation, mobility, positioning, turning, and lifting while following patient-care safety practices.
- Assist patients with transfers and discharges.
- Support patients’ nutritional needs by passing and collecting food trays, feeding patients, providing fresh water each shift, and assisting with special diets and between-meal nourishment.
- Complete annual skill validations and follow safety and infection-control procedures.
