About The Position

As a school nurse assistant, you accomplish administrative and simple medical responsibilities under the direction of a licensed school nurse. You will be responsible for keeping records of each student who visits the nurse's office under the nurse's direction and assisting the nurse with their needs. You must follow their directives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of general office experience.
  • Must have at least two years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge in the use of a variety of medical instruments and equipment, such as a blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, otoscope, thermometer, nebulizer, audiometer, glucometer, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and functions, use of Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.
  • Skill in the use of general office equipment such as a printer, calculator, copier, fax, etc.
  • Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Have regular and punctual attendance.
  • Follow all District policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical office, pediatric clinic or related health field experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Send out nurse-related emails as directed.
  • Respond to parent or staff emails if medical advice is not needed; forward to the nurse if medical advice is requested.
  • Carry out assigned duties as a member of the Emergency Team.
  • Confirm each student has a Red Folder, ensuring it contains a valid immunization certificate and hearing and vision screenings forms.
  • Input hearing and vision screening data into SNAP following the nurse's directive.
  • Work with the nurse on immunizations, contacting parents/guardians for updated or incomplete immunization forms.
  • Input immunization records into SNAP with nursing assistance to ensure compliance.
  • Run the report for non-compliant students from SNAP and use it to update students with incomplete immunizations.
  • Run SNAP reports monthly to check for Immunization and Health Card compliancy for new students.
  • Keep detailed notes of communications regarding immunizations, including dates, discussions, and dialog with students/parents.
  • Communicate discussions and dialog to the nurse and follow their directives.
  • Forward any phone calls or emails pertaining to medical issues with students or staff to the nurse.
  • Print and file Health Cards according to grade and alphabetically.
  • Run a roster from Power School on each grade to check that all students have a health card and notify parents if none.
  • Update Power School with health alerts from health cards and input allergies into Power School for the nutrition vendor.
  • Monitor students in the "sick" room.
  • Provide teachers with a supply of band-aids, gloves, and 4x4's.
  • Keep medication cups and water cups restocked.
  • Refill feminine products.
  • Ensure the health clinic is adequately stocked and order supplies with the nurse, confirming the order with the nurse.
  • Go to classrooms for backpacks/computers for students being sent home.
  • Direct any questions from parents to the nurse when walking students out to them to prevent miscommunication.
  • Keep all benches, tables, chairs, faucet handles, door handles, light switches, and flat surfaces disinfected and wiped.
  • Administer prescription medication to students under the supervision of the nurse.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or other district office administrator.
