About The Position

This position assists patients with daily living activities, provides basic nursing care, and helps maintain a safe and clean environment. The role involves direct patient interaction, including serving meals, assisting with ambulation, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and privacy. The Nurse Assistant also plays a role in patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and collaborates with the healthcare team to deliver quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Certified Nurse Assistant course preferred.
  • BLS training.
  • Previous Nurse Assistant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and provides basic nursing care.
  • Maintains a safe and clean patient environment.
  • Explains procedures to patients and participates in patient instruction.
  • Serves meals, assists with feeding, and ensures patients eat in an unhurried manner.
  • Assists with patient turning, transfers, and ambulation.
  • Measures and accurately records patient intake and output.
  • Provides post mortem care according to policy.
  • Obtains and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, O2 saturation) and weights as ordered.
  • Keeps the patient environment, nurses station, and utility rooms neat and orderly.
  • Reports abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to the team leader/charge nurse.
  • Promotes good public relations for the nursing department and hospital.
  • Records nursing care provided clearly and accurately.
  • Respects patient, hospital, and physician confidentiality.
  • Provides for patient privacy at all times.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges, including collecting admission data and securing patient belongings.
  • Assists with diagnostic tests, special procedures, and specimen collection.
  • Communicates and collaborates with healthcare team members.
  • Performs core and unit-specific clinical skills competently.
  • Answers call lights promptly and ensures patient comfort items are within reach.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper and safe use of patient care equipment.
  • Utilizes basic problem-solving skills to prevent and resolve issues.
  • Performs one-on-one patient monitoring as assigned.
