About The Position

This position is for a Nurse Assistant on the 4 South Progressive Care Unit, a 35-bed unit that provides care for stroke, cardiac, and thoracic patients. The unit is described as fast-paced and encouraging. Responsibilities include assessing patients' NIHSS scale, providing treatment and education per protocol, managing cardiac issues, taking vital signs every four hours, performing hourly rounding, collaborating with Physical and Occupational Therapy, and educating patients and families about post-discharge expectations. The role also involves providing care according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This includes safe transport of patients, acting as an Observer for patients requiring constant observation (in-person or via remote monitoring), performing general receptionist and clerical duties, and documenting care in the electronic medical record.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support required within 30 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred
  • Current CNA certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services.
  • Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety.
  • Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
  • Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record.
  • Assess patient’s NIHSS scale and provide treatment and education per protocol.
  • Treat Cardiac issues that may arise during their stay with medications and procedures.
  • Do vital signs every four hours and hourly rounding on every patient.
  • Work closely with Physical and Occupational therapy for our patient’s recovery.
  • Educate both the patient and their family members on what to expect after discharge.
