About The Position

This position is for a Nurse Assistant or Trainee in the Surgical 200 W unit at CoxHealth South. As a Trainee, the role involves functioning within a classroom and clinical learning environment to obtain training as unlicensed assistive personnel. As a Nurse Assistant, the role provides basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff. Both roles involve providing basic patient care, which includes duties such as taking vitals, bathing, dressing, moving patients, changing linens, and other duties within their scope of practice as directed. The position requires obtaining information on patient condition as requested by the nursing staff or clinical educator and reporting any changes. Trainees will undergo a competency assessment at the end of their training. The 200 Medical-Surgical unit is a 30-bed unit specializing in medical, surgical, and gynecologic/oncology care, caring for a broad age range of patients. Common procedures include hysterectomies, mastectomies, bowel resections, and various oncology surgeries, with occasional chemotherapy administration and telemetry/oxygen support. The unit offers diverse clinical experiences, a supportive, team-focused culture, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valuable time management skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.
  • For Nurse Assistant role: 3 months experience as a nursing assistant in an inpatient or long-term care setting, EMT, or Surgical Technologist in the past 3 years OR completion of an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Program within the past 3 years OR completion of the “fundamentals of nursing” course with clinical in an accredited nursing program or practical nursing education program.
  • For Nurse Assistant Trainee role: Availability for work on a consistent and timely basis.
  • For Nurse Assistant Trainee role: Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks.

  • Prior patient care or health care related experience (for Trainee role)

Responsibilities

  • Complete a competency assessment at the end of training to validate learning (for Trainees).
