Under the medical direction of an Anesthesiologist, develops anesthetic plan and administers anesthesia in assigned locations. Observes patients’ physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by physician. Performs pre- and post- operative evaluations on assigned cases and provides accurate documentation in the electronic medical record. Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent anesthesia practice. Assembles necessary supplies, drugs and equipment for each case, and tests equipment to ensure proper functioning for surgical procedure. Discusses and develops anesthetic plan in collaboration with anesthesiologist. Reviews patients’ medical records to determine types of procedures to be performed and evaluate patient’s medical status. Establishes or confirms the presence of appropriate intravenous access. If trained and credentialed, may insert arterial catheters, perform spinal anesthesia, and IV regional anesthesia. Provides emergency airway support as requested throughout the facility. Performs supportive life functions, including intratracheal intubation, management of blood, fluid and electrolyte loss, and maintenance of cardiovascular and respiratory functions. Identifies and manages emergency situations, including assessment of adequacy of recovery or antagonism of muscle relaxants, narcotics, and other agents; implements appropriate management techniques. Carefully documents all activities on the anesthetic record or patients’ medical record.
