About The Position

This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan. Provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Monitors patients accurately and performs Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center. Manages the patients' physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician. Assists with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Requirements

  • Credential: ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Credential: BLS: Basic Life Support
  • Credential: CRNA: Certified RN Anesthetist
  • Credential: NBCRNA: National Board CRNA
  • Education: Nurse Anesthetist
  • Knowledge of anesthesia as normally acquired through completion of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia culminating in certification and licensure in the State of Michigan. May also be in the process of completing final course work and waiting to take State Boards.
  • Written, organization, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups to interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform basic and advanced skills required practicing anesthesia.
  • These may include but are not limited to: Adult and pediatric venipuncture, Arterial line insertion, Medication calculation and effects Sterile technique, Airway maintenance, Administration and management of regional anesthetics.
  • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
  • Competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an additional preferred certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
  • Prepares the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia.
  • Administers, manages, and monitors anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
