About The Position

This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan. The Nurse Anesthetist provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. They accurately monitor patients and perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center. The role involves managing the patients' physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiating corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician. The Nurse Anesthetist also assists with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Requirements

  • Certified RN Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • National Board CRNA (NBCRNA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire or transfer.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia as normally acquired through completion of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia culminating in certification and licensure in the State of Michigan. May also be in the process of completing final course work and waiting to take State Boards.
  • Written, organization, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups to interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform basic and advanced skills required practicing anesthesia, including but not limited to: Adult and pediatric venipuncture, Arterial line insertion, Medication calculation and effects, Sterile technique, Airway maintenance, Administration and management of regional anesthetics.
  • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
  • Competency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
  • Prepare the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia.
  • Administer, manage, and monitor anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care and evaluation.
