About The Position

This position is located at the 82nd Medical Group at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Duties include providing professional nursing care through the delivery, management, and coordination of care and services in a clinic setting. Perform procedures such as urinary catheterizations, visual acuity tests, Electrocardiography, blood glucose monitoring, nebulization therapy, intravenous fluid therapy, and wound care. Monitor and ensure proper rotation of medications to manage expiration dates. Obtain and screen radiology, laboratory, and pathology study results, notifying the credentialed provider of abnormal results. Make independent nursing diagnoses by analyzing assessment data to determine patient care needs, i.e., preventive services, health promotion, health maintenance, or health-related problems or issues. Provide health education/coaching to patients, significant others, and/or family members/caregivers. Oversee and mentor paraprofessional and newly assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
  • Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Immunization screening is required.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Tuberculosis Testing is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.

  • Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
  • Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required.
  • Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below.
  • A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing nursing care to ambulatory patients, administering medications, and providing education to patients or nursing staff.
  • A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
  • The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
