About The Position
As a Nurse Aide with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you join a team dedicated to providing dependable and respectful care to inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. This role allows you to work closely with supervisors and support essential daily routines that improve comfort and well-being. You help monitor health needs and assist with tasks that support daily care activities. It is a chance to bring patience, focus, and energy to an important hands-on position. This role supports individualized care plans by assisting licensed professionals with daily health and hygiene routines for inmates.
Requirements
- Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry
- Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
- Ability to perform essential job functions
- Pass a background investigation
- Meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
Responsibilities
- Check and record vital signs and observe daily health patterns
- Assist inmates with bathing, dressing, hygiene, and mobility needs
- Provide lifting, positioning, transferring, and skin care to support well-being and safety
- Help transport wheelchair inmates to medical lines, tests, and consultations
- Document care activities, retrieve information, and maintain accurate health records
- Sterilize equipment and manage inventory to support daily operations
