About The Position

The Western Nebraska Veterans' Home is offering a Nurse Aide Training Class for individuals passionate about caring for others and looking to advance their careers. Trainees will initially work as a Staff Care Technician I and will be promoted to Staff Care Technician II upon successful completion of the certification process. The training course is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 8th, and conclude on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. New Hire Orientation will be held on Monday, July 6th, and Tuesday, July 7th, 2026. Both the training class and orientation will run daily, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with certification testing following the training.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Completed a state-approved 76-hour nurse aide training course and competency evaluation program (for Staff Care Technician II).
  • Listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry (for Staff Care Technician II).
  • Must attend 100% (in person) of the Nurse Aide Training Class.
  • Skill in active listening.
  • Skill in communicating clearly with others.
  • Ability to learn the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Ability to attend and complete nurse aide classroom training courses.
  • Ability to complete courses and competency evaluations necessary to be listed on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry and the Nebraska Medication Aide Registry.
  • Ability to observe, recognize, and report on physical status.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 75 lbs. on a daily basis.
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and neck.
  • Ability to frequently twist at the waist.
  • Ability to walk or stand up to 90% of the shift.
  • Ability to interact with members and others in a positive manner.
  • Ability to be flexible to meet changing demands of the job.
  • Ability to use empathy in dealing with others.

Responsibilities
