This internship is more than an opportunity; it is about preparing and developing the next group of individuals for the next step in their career. The Numismatic Intern is an entry-level position for those with an interest in numismatics. The Numismatic Intern is involved in many aspects of the operations of the Numismatic team. They will be involved with learning how to grade coins and how to curate coins and all of the processes that allow this to happen. From counting and sorting coins, to curating, researching and evaluating coins. They will learn the evaluation process for all types of numismatic, semi-numismatic and bullion coins, bars and other items. The evaluation process consists of researching items that are received in the Receiving Department daily, assisting the Numismatic/PM Ops staff(s) in determining the value of these items and assisting in determining whether these items should be submitted for third-party independent grading or added to inventory. This position works with the Numismatic Dept. to consistently keep products moving quickly from Receiving, through the Evaluation area, and onto the APMEX website. The Numismatic Intern is expected to spend a portion of their time learning the evaluation processes, perfecting their grading skills and growing their numismatic knowledge. Numismatic Interns may be called upon to curate items to improve their salability. Numismatic Interns will spend a significant amount of time evaluating bulk coins and currency such as 90% silver coins, silver dollars, Silver American Eagles, and currency in order to perfect their grading and evaluations skills.
