As an NR Welder, your day-to-day work involves performing a wide range of technical and specialized welding operations after successfully completing a multi‑month certification process. You will work with manual, automatic, and robotic welding equipment, producing welds that meet or exceed NAVSEA nuclear quality standards and all prescribed quality control procedures. The job will start with training on day shift for a minimum of three (3) months and then transition to a three (3) day weekend schedule, twelve (12) hour shifts, Friday through Sunday. The pay will be for forty hours, three days per week.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, typically with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to weld at extreme temperatures and in various environments, including elevated platforms, confined spaces, and multiple welding positions (such as lying on the stomach).
  • Provide weld quality that meets NAVSEA nuclear standards and follow all written and verbal instructions.
  • All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
  • Selected applicants are required to successfully complete a pre-employment check and drug screening.
  • The position may require the ability to obtain and maintain applicable federal eligibility requirements for access to classified/sensitive information or matter which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test, previous employment, and reference verifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience with dissimilar metal welding is desired.
  • Experience with X-ray or ultrasonic‑tested quality welds, out‑of‑position or complex welding, heat‑treat practices, and familiarity with NDE methods is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform layouts, read and interpret blueprints/specifications, and set up, align, and level workpieces according to job requirements.
  • Select and use proper wire, flux, weld gauges, and welding machine setting, including wire feed and electrode adjustments.
  • Attach and maintain preheat equipment, verify material identity/characteristics, and install or remove mechanical round-out rings.
  • Prepare and finish weld areas by buffing, grinding, arc-airing defect, and grinding completed weld to drawing requirements.
  • Perform a wide range of technical and specialized welding operations after successfully completing a multi‑month certification process.
  • Work with manual, automatic, and robotic welding equipment, producing welds that meet or exceed NAVSEA nuclear quality standards and all prescribed quality control procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; perform minor equipment maintenance and assist maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Accurately complete and maintain all required records and documentation.
