About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking entry-level Nuclear Security Officers for the Surry Power Station in Surry, VA. This role is responsible for maintaining security at nuclear stations by controlling access, monitoring and testing security and communications systems, and ensuring NRC requirements are enforced. The company is actively seeking United States military veterans who meet the qualifications outlined below. Qualified candidates will be responsible for preventing and protecting against radiological sabotage, learning nuclear defense tactics, operating and monitoring electronic security systems, responding to alarms and emergencies, searching vehicles and personnel, serving as members of the armed response force, controlling access to and patrolling protected/vital areas, testing security equipment, and preparing security reports. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license. Membership in the station's Fire Brigade and/or First Aid Team may be required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license or be able to obtain one.
  • 0-2 years experience
  • Basic knowledge of weaponry and the safe handling of firearms.
  • Ability to gain the required knowledge and experience dealing with specific issues associated with providing security at nuclear power plant and critical infrastructure protection.
  • Ability to successfully complete a training certification course designed to provide the minimum level of skills and knowledge to competently perform all tasks associated with a Nuclear Security Officer as required by the NRC.
  • Ability to successfully complete physical training requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain a continued level of alertness in a variety of conditions.
  • May be required to be a member of the station's Fire Brigade and/or First Aid Team.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent and protect against radiological sabotage as defined by the Design Basis Threat.
  • Learn nuclear defense tactics, security policies and procedures, and gain tactical work experience.
  • Operate, monitor and program electronic security and communications systems.
  • Respond to, assess, and investigate alarms, special conditions, emergency situations and security contingencies; provide compensatory measures for failed or degraded security safeguards.
  • Search vehicles, personnel and possessions prior to entry to station.
  • Serve as members of the armed response force by implementing assigned portions of the protective strategy as directed, and may coordinate communications with local fire, rescue and law enforcement agencies.
  • Control access to and patrol protected/vital areas.
  • Test all security related equipment, including communications systems, detectors, x-ray screening devices, alarm systems, in vital as well as non-vital areas.
  • Prepare required security reports using a computer system and maintain security documentation, including documentation for electronic security systems and hardware.
