About The Position

This is the advancing level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with even greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressing complex and varied. Senior Nuclear Engineer is the career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of electrical systems and components with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take actions to resolve.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Not Technology) from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a BS in engineering degree.

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering
  • In addition to desired degree, 8 years related work experience
  • Professional Engineer - SC
  • Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles.
  • Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Increasingly proficient in principles of project management
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department

Responsibilities

  • Play a vital role in ensuring quality equipment reliability and the success of component maintenance and planning activities.
  • Ensure component reliability is consistent with station goals.
  • Be assigned ownership of electrical systems and/or components of varying complexity.
  • Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) on their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Coordinate cross functionally with other departments (such as Design, Maintenance & Operations) to ensure concerns, schedules, budgeting and related issues are properly managed.
  • Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Contribute to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deal with changing priorities and differing situations and make decisions that may affect the work of the team.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conduct engineering and related studies; complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possess and apply the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies.
  • Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Support the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
