About The Position

This Nuclear Construction Materials Testing Field Technician is onsite in Idaho Falls and combines the duties of an ACI-certified field technician and lab technician. This individual will have in the field responsibilities such as providing field testing and inspections of concrete, masonry, soils, aggregates, and asphalt for private and public projects. The successful hire will also have lab responsibilities such as soils, concrete testing, and lab upkeep including maintaining lab accreditations. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Motivated, career-oriented individual striving to learn and achieve within the construction industry.
  • Must be willing to travel near the reporting office and surrounding areas as required by assignments
  • Works well independently.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to learn and operate specialty equipment.
  • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 50 lbs., stoop, bend, and stand throughout the course of a workday in varying weather conditions in varying terrain.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with within a construction related field is a plus.
  • Ability to work toward and achieve industry required certifications. e.g., APNGA Nuclear Certification, American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1, Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level 1, OSHA 10-hour Construction, etc.
  • Preference for relevant work experience, a technical or associate’s degree, but not required.
  • Preferred experience in testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Test methods, and American Standard Testing Materials (ASTM) standards, knowledge of AASHTO’s and Cement & Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) accreditation requirements and procedures, and knowledge of equipment calibrations and procedures compliant with AASHTO proficiency testing requirements.
  • Ability to work toward and achieve industry required certifications. e.g., APNGA Nuclear Certification, American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1, Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level 1, OSHA 10-hour Construction, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performs field quality control tests of concrete, masonry, and other construction materials.
  • Performs field density testing on soil, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications for the lab as well as construction materials testing and inspection in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Manage and conduct lab testing of concrete, soils, and other CMT materials.
  • Daily commutable travels to various construction sites, with the occasional overnight and/or weekend work when required.
  • Relays information to project manager and/or engineer, with limited in-field decision making.
  • Transports equipment, test specimens, and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provides physical assistance in equipment set-up.
  • Enters daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.
  • Assists other technicians or professional staff on tasks and supports other departments as necessary.
  • Follows Atlas� safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specs
  • Ability to follow Atlas' QC plan and SOP's
