About The Position

We are seeking an ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I to support concrete testing and inspection services on active construction projects in the Pocatello and Idaho Falls areas. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on field work, takes pride in accuracy, and can communicate effectively with contractors and project teams. You will play a key role in ensuring concrete materials meet project specifications and industry standards along with soils testing, rebar inspections and sampling of construction materials.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1-2+ years of experience in construction materials testing and inspection
  • Exposure to or certification with field testing equipment (e.g., nuclear gauge)
  • OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain)
  • ACI Level1 field certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and proof of insurance
  • Willingness to travel to job sites and work occasional weekends, early mornings, late evenings, or out-of-town assignments as needed
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional work ethic, willingness to learn, and consistent attention to detail
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with the public, contractors, supervisors, and team members
  • Ability to read and follow procedures accurately
  • Strong attention to detail when collecting data, documenting results, and performing testing
  • Able to work independently in the field while staying organized and meeting project requirements
  • Comfortable taking initiative and offering recommendations to solve field issues
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Able to perform testing while other perform observation of conformance
  • Ability to learn and pass certification exams (ACI, WAQTC, ICC)

Responsibilities

  • Perform concrete field testing in accordance with ASTM and ACI standards
  • Conduct slump tests, air content tests, temperature measurements, and prepare concrete cylinders
  • Perform compaction testing on soils and aggregate
  • Conduct rebar inspection to verify placement, spacing, and compliance with project specifications
  • Perform sample collection following proper procedures and chain-of-custody requirements
  • Assist with various inspections throughout construction phases, as assigned
  • Track time and mileage daily
  • Submit samples, reports, and timecards daily
  • Respond to emails, texts, and phone calls within a reasonable timeframe
  • Document test results accurately and communicate findings to contractors and supervisors
  • Maintain testing equipment and ensure proper calibration and cleanliness
  • Follow all company and site-specific safety procedures
  • Travel to job sites in the Pocatello and Idaho Falls regions
  • Support project schedules, including occasional early mornings, late evenings, weekends, or out-of-town work when needed
