The NPI Specialist provides engineering support and coordination for prototype builds, ensuring new assemblies are completed on time and within budget. The role also provides feedback to engineering and support groups to help transition products from prototype to production. The specialist reviews and interprets customer specifications and proposes solutions addressing product architecture, schedules, technical risks and assumptions, and resource requirements. The position provides mechanical tool design support across business units, designs and implements manufacturing and test processes for capacity expansion, and applies continuous-flow concepts or Theory of Constraints methods to reduce product cycle time. As the program or project interface for new product launches and introductions, the specialist translates customer requirements into factory activities, estimates factory activity time for pricing models, documents factory support activities, and develops preliminary program timelines for customer quotes. The position applies in-depth specialized knowledge and works on moderately scoped problems requiring judgment and analysis. It operates with minimum supervision, with unusual problems solved jointly with a manager. The specialist may lead a work group or project team and builds relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal service groups. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, and hazardous substances. Duties may involve extended sitting and sustained visual concentration on computer monitors or detailed data, as well as frequent repetitive manual movements such as data entry and computer or calculator use.
