About The Position

PerkinElmer is seeking an NPI Product Manager to lead commercial readiness for assigned New Product Introduction (NPI) programs across the ICP-OES product line. The role owns commercial readiness from development initiation through post-launch ramp, ensuring new analytical instruments launch with appropriate pricing, positioning, training, launch plans, and commercial tools. The NPI Product Manager represents market and customer needs in program decisions and partners with R&D, Applications Science, Marketing, and the field commercial organization, leading cross-functional teams without formal authority. The position develops commercial launch plans and pricing strategies, owns market and product requirements, leads voice-of-customer and beta programs, coordinates launch execution and field readiness, monitors post-launch performance, and supports program reviews and launch handoffs. The role is hybrid based from PerkinElmer’s Shelton, Connecticut office, with 1–2 days available for remote work depending on business needs, and requires 25–35% travel.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in product management, technical product marketing, or program management within analytical instrumentation, life sciences tools, or scientific capital equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a major NPI through full commercial launch, from market requirements definition through post-launch ramp, with personal ownership of commercial readiness deliverables.
  • Deep working knowledge of at least one relevant analytical technique, such as spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, or materials characterization, sufficient to engage credibly with R&D teams and customers.
  • Experience conducting structured voice-of-customer programs, including customer interviews, concept testing, and willingness-to-pay research, and translating findings into product and positioning decisions.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience building NPI business cases, pricing models, and revenue ramp forecasts.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority and influence R&D, Applications, Marketing Communications, and regional commercial functions.
  • Ability to travel 25–35% for customer visits, beta site management, conferences, and internal program reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience with a structured stage-gate NPI process in a product management organization.
  • Familiarity with PerkinElmer’s Atomic Spectroscopy portfolio and customer workflows.
  • A track record of competitive wins in head-to-head NPI situations, including launching a product that displaced an established competitive platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own the commercial readiness workstream for assigned NPI programs and define and drive achievement of commercial launch readiness.
  • Develop and maintain commercial launch plans covering pricing strategy, target customer profiles, positioning, competitive differentiation, channel and regional sequencing, and sales readiness milestones.
  • Set launch pricing by developing pricing models using market research, willingness-to-pay data, competitive benchmarks, and lifecycle revenue objectives; partner with the Strategic Product Director, with approval from the VP of Atomic Spectroscopy.
  • Define and track commercial readiness gate criteria at each NPI stage gate.
  • Own the Market Requirements Document (MRD), collaborating with the Strategic Segment Manager and conducting independent voice-of-customer research.
  • Translate MRD requirements into actionable Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), specifying trade-offs between required and optional features.
  • Serve as the primary commercial interface to the R&D program team, attend technical reviews, flag commercial risks, and negotiate feature and schedule trade-offs.
  • Monitor competitor product releases, pricing changes, and application developments throughout NPI programs.
  • Design and lead voice-of-customer programs, including at least 30 in-depth customer interviews per year during active development.
  • Manage beta customer relationships from site selection through beta completion and ensure feedback is evidence-based.
  • Turn customer research into program recommendations, including feature priorities, pricing, positioning, and competitive responses.
  • Coordinate commercial launch readiness across Applications Science, Marketing Communications, Regional Marketing, Sales, and Service.
  • Develop launch materials including product briefs, competitive battlecards, value proposition messaging, demo guides, and objection-handling resources.
  • Deliver pre-launch product and application training to sales and service teams.
  • Monitor post-launch order intake, revenue, competitive win rate, and pricing realization, and lead corrective actions when performance falls behind plan.
  • Participate in NPI program reviews, stage-gate meetings, and executive steering committee briefings, representing the commercial perspective.
  • Partner with Applications Scientists on application-note and proof-of-performance content for launch and early ramp.
  • Hand off the NPI to the Strategic Product Director and Operations PM at commercial launch, providing product, pricing, and market documentation and supporting transition of portfolio management.
  • Travel 25–35% for customer visits, beta site management, conferences, and internal program reviews.
