About The Position

The NP/PA in Pulmonary Medicine provides comprehensive care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions across both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage pulmonary diseases, while ensuring continuity of care from hospital to clinic. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Supports physician to develop and maintain patients.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (for APRNs)
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (strongly preferred for PAs)
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred
  • Minimum of two years Pediatric primary/specialty or acute care setting experience OR 2 years' experience in related allied health field (i.e. family practice setting with heavy component of pediatric patients) strongly preferred (for PAs)
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license (for APRNs)
  • Current Texas professional advance practice registered nurse license (for APRNs)
  • Recognition from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Nurse (for APRNs)
  • Certification as Pediatric or Family Practice Nurse Practitioner (for APRNs)
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred (required for specific departments)
  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license (for PAs)
  • Recognition from the Texas Medical Board as a Physician Assistant (for PAs)
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant PA-C required (for PAs)

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required when assigned to Anesthesiology, Care Team, Complex Care, Fostering Health, H/O, Nephrology, and Neurology departments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical exams for hospitalized pulmonary and clinic patients
  • Manage acute and chronic respiratory conditions (e.g., asthma, pneumonia, respiratory failure)
  • Order, interpret, and manage diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, pulmonary function tests)
  • Coordinate care with respiratory therapy, nursing, and consulting services
  • Provide follow-up care post-hospitalization to ensure continuity and reduce readmissions
  • Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, and self-management
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner in the EMR
