About The Position

Interim HealthCare® Staffing is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join a growing Hematology and Medical Oncology program. The clinic specializes in treating complex cancers with unique treatment plans. This position supports a growing Hematology and Medical Oncology team with an opportunity to see patients in the inpatient setting at Corewell Health’s Butterworth Hospital on our medical mile in downtown Grand Rapids, with an occasional need for consultation at our Blodgett Hospital campus. The schedule is full time, 30-40 hours/week, with a 3-week rotating schedule (10-hour shifts: 7am-5pm). This is a contract position, with the option to extend.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
  • LIC-Physician Assistant - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
  • CRT-Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required
  • CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required
  • Master's Degree Nurse Practitioners who obtained their education and certification after 2000 must show evidence of completion of a master’s, post-master’s or doctorate from a Nurse Practitioner program that is accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
  • 3 years of relevant experience current, relevant clinical experience Required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history and physical examinations for hospitalized hematology and oncology patients.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic oncologic and hematologic conditions under established collaborative practice agreements and hospital protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Order, interpret, and monitor laboratory tests, imaging studies, pathology reports, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Monitor patients for treatment-related toxicities, complications, and adverse events, initiating appropriate interventions.
  • Assess and manage oncologic emergencies such as neutropenic fever, tumor lysis syndrome, spinal cord compression, superior vena cava syndrome, and hypercalcemia of malignancy.
  • Perform daily patient rounds and provide ongoing assessment of clinical status and treatment response.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, consultations, and discharge planning for hematology and oncology patients.
  • Collaborate with consulting services including surgery, radiation oncology, infectious disease, palliative care, pharmacy, nutrition, and case management.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, medications, prognosis, and discharge instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, federal, and accreditation standards related to patient care and documentation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research activities, and evidence-based practice projects as applicable.
  • Provide mentorship and education to nursing staff, students, residents, and other healthcare team members regarding hematology and oncology care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, case conferences, and departmental meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of hematology and oncology guidelines, therapies, and best practices through continuing education and professional development.
