About The Position

The Notetaker/Captionist reports to the Coordinator of Hearing Loss Services and provides academic support services that promote equal access for students with disabilities. This part-time position offers up to 18 hours per week and requires flexibility to support a variety of classroom and testing environments.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide high-quality notetaking and captioning services for students with diverse disabilities in a postsecondary educational environment.
  • Proficiency in using computers and standard office software applications.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to think independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative to complete assignments successfully.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments while adhering to established schedules and procedures.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Dedication to providing courteous, respectful, and inclusive customer service.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • English language proficiency required; candidate must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time note-taking services in classroom, lecture, and laboratory settings.
  • Deliver transcription and copy-typing services as requested.
  • Create and edit closed captions for audiovisual materials.
  • Provide test-reading and test-proctoring services in accordance with approved accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional support services to students with varying accessibility needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure effective delivery of accommodations.
