About The Position

The Northern Colorado Volunteer Manager is responsible for managing volunteer programs at all facilities in Northern Colorado. This includes recruiting, screening, and placing volunteers, creating position descriptions, and ensuring a positive experience for all involved. The Volunteer Manager collaborates with leadership and staff to meet program needs, support site supervisors, and leads retention efforts, including special events. They also oversee short term service projects, manage volunteer databases, and develop enriching experiences for volunteers and interns (when applicable). The role requires participation in team events and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or comparable degree in business, community development or related field – or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of experience coordinating, recruiting, or managing volunteers or community engagement programs.
  • Experience supervising people preferred.
  • Experience public speaking and facilitating groups.
  • Customer service skills including excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to effectively develop and promote staff and community relationships.
  • Must be a self-starter who is highly organized, flexible, and committed to serving all who interact with DRM.
  • Strong computer experience with proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook, and database knowledge.
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.
  • Must be able to work with people of diverse culture, socio-economic backgrounds, and religious beliefs.
  • Occasional work on weekends and evenings required.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Regular travel between work facilities required.

Responsibilities

  • Build collaborative relationships with internal leaders and staff to understand how volunteers can be engaged in mutually beneficial and relevant ways at both locations.
  • Assess how needs can be met by volunteers and how many volunteers are needed for each role.
  • Collaborate with staff site-supervisors to create and maintain volunteer position descriptions.?
  • Ensure staff are offering an appropriate type and number of tasks for volunteer shifts.
  • Assist volunteers in scheduling, canceling, or modifying their volunteer shifts.
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries on the volunteer phone line and email.
  • Screen and onboard new long-term volunteers. Includes reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and facilitating background checks.
  • Facilitate handoff to appropriate staff supervisor for volunteer training.
  • Train staff at each facility to supervise volunteers and prepare them to facilitate positive volunteer experiences.
  • Regularly communicate with staff that supervise volunteers to make sure volunteer processes are running smoothly across facilities. Take action when necessary to correct issues.
  • Manage volunteer accountability and discipline processes as needed.
  • Other activities as assigned by Director of Volunteer Services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships in the community for recruitment, including churches, recruitment fairs, schools, community events, etc.
  • Develop and maintain online recruitment avenues including the volunteer website, school sites, volunteer websites, community partners, etc.
  • Represent the mission at volunteer recruitment and community speaking events.
  • Intentionally look for ways to cultivate and invite volunteers to a higher level of commitment in a long-term volunteer position or regular meal service opportunity.
  • Provide or facilitate tours of Northern Colorado facilities.
  • Communicate with Development staff concerning donors serving in each facility.
  • Ensure volunteers have a positive and productive experience to encourage word-of-mouth advertising and repeat volunteering.
  • Lead efforts on volunteer appreciation and retention, including special events and National Volunteer Appreciation Week.
  • Maintain relationships with volunteers for feedback, appreciation, recruitment, networking, etc.
  • Develop transformational opportunities through volunteer orientation, engagement, education, and debriefing.
  • Plan and lead educational volunteer opportunities.
  • Help create content and organize a Northern Colorado Volunteer Newsletter.
  • Develop proficient working knowledge of the volunteer database (Salesforce).
  • Set goals for and audit monthly volunteer hours.
  • Maintain volunteer records and application information honoring confidentially and protecting personally identifiable information.
  • Equip volunteers to log their hours, send regular reminders to log hours, and fill in hours as needed.
  • Update volunteer handbook and policies with the Director of Volunteer Services.
  • Complete monthly report of completed tasks and accomplishments.
  • Maintain list of current volunteer needs at each facility and verify postings are up to date in the volunteer database and other recruitment sites.
  • Manage the mentor program at Harvest Farm, matching volunteers with program participants, and supporting the mentor/mentee relationship.
  • Act as site supervisor for volunteers who do not fall under a clear Programs or Operations staff member.
  • Onboard and supervise Northern Colorado volunteer services interns.
  • Assist with planning for Northern Colorado volunteer budget needs and adhere to budget guidelines from the Director of Volunteer Services.
  • Manage and oversee performance for the Northern Colorado Volunteer Coordinator. Set goals and provide accountability.
  • Manage schedules and approve time sheets and vacation requests.
  • Recruit and select short-term service trips and special project groups for each facility, working alongside other staff members to create successful volunteer opportunities.
  • Organize itineraries, training, and activities as needed for each group including orientation and debrief.
  • Collect and share feedback from volunteers and staff from the group experiences.
  • Collaborate with Development staff to build strategic relationships in the community and find intentional volunteer opportunities for corporate sponsors and churches.
  • Work with Development staff to develop long-term strategies and goals for corporate sponsors and churches.
  • Work closely with Northern Colorado Leadership and Development staff to ensure positive and collaborative volunteer experiences.
  • Participate in Volunteer Services, Development, Northern Colorado staff meetings, retreat days, and other team events.
  • Participate in annual training opportunities for professional development.
  • Crosstrain on departmental responsibilities to occasionally cover for teammates.
