About The Position

The Nonstudent hourly (NSH) will study the virulence mechanisms of Pantoea ananatis, a rice bacterial pathogen. They will collaborate with a national network of researchers. This role involves designing experiments to characterize microbial virulence.

Requirements

Authorized to work in the United States by employment start date.
Weekend work as needed.
Approved to work in a Select agent lab.
MS degree in plant pathology or related field
Experience working with Pantoea ananatis and rice.
Approved to work in a Select agent lab.

Responsibilities

General microbiology lab skills.
Molecular genetic skills. Genetically manipulate bacteria and characterize the genetic alterations (cloning, transformation, conjugation, sequencing, PCR, etc).
Plant pathology skills. Inoculate plants with bacterial pathogens and evaluate colonization of the plants by the bacteria.
Genomic skills. Genome analysis of microbes and plants.
Data analysis skills. Statistically analyze and report on data.
Mentoring skills. Supervise undergraduate researchers.
Design experiments to characterize microbial virulence.
