About The Position
The NSH will study the virulence mechanisms of Pantoea ananatis, a rice bacterial pathogen. They will collaborate with a national network of researchers.
Requirements
- MS degree in plant pathology or related field
- Experience working with Pantoea ananatis and rice.
- Approved to work in a Select agent lab.
- Bacterial genetics skills
- Plant pathology skills.
- Genome analysis skills.
- Collaborative skills.
- Authorized to work in the United States by employment start date.

Responsibilities
- Design experiments to characterize microbial virulence.
- General microbiology lab skills.
- Molecular genetic skills: Genetically manipulate bacteria and characterize the genetic alterations (cloning, transformation, conjugation, sequencing, PCR, etc).
- Plant pathology skills: Inoculate plants with bacterial pathogens and evaluate colonization of the plants by the bacteria.
- Genomic skills: Genome analysis of microbes and plants.
- Data analysis skills: Statistically analyze and report on data.
- Mentoring skills: Supervise undergraduate researchers.
