About The Position

Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department located in the state-of-the-art hospital. Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes to monitor a patient’s nervous system activity. They set up, perform, and monitor EEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists, neurologists, or other doctors. As a Non-registered EEG Technician at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health, you will be provided with ample opportunities to grow & expand your career. Within this position, you will receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring. Non-registered technicians should expect to be in this role for one year with the expectation that they will become fully registered as an EEG Technologist. At Cleveland Clinic, you will receive support for your Registered EEG Certification and CLTM (Certification in Neurophysiologic Long-Term Monitoring) credentials. You will be able to move into different roles within the department, including Registered EEG Tech Readers and IOM (Intraoperative Monitoring) Technicians.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience
  • One year of experience as a non-registered EEG Technician
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Responsibilities

  • Perform electroencephalographic examinations.
  • Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognize artifacts and take appropriate steps to eliminate them.
  • Monitor on the same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.
  • Observe patient with video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly and check focus, lighting and microphone.
  • Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.
  • Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing event button and care of videos.
  • Abstract relevant information from the patients' clinical record and obtain additional information.
  • Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.
