About The Position

The EEG Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic tests that measure electrical activity in the brain and nervous system. The role includes preparing patients, operating EEG equipment, monitoring recordings, and ensuring accurate, high-quality data collection for physician interpretation while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic brain anatomy
  • Ability to read, write, and understand verbal and written communication

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited EEG or Neurodiagnostic Technology program
  • Certification or eligibility by ABRET (R.EEG.T), preferred or required within 1–2 years of hire
  • Previous EEG experience, preferably in a hospital or neurology setting
  • Knowledge of electrical physiology and neurodiagnostic procedures

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized EEG tests on patients of all ages
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and positioning electrodes correctly
  • Operate EEG and related neurodiagnostic equipment according to established protocols
  • Monitor recordings to ensure quality and recognize artifact or abnormal brain activity
  • Document patient medical history, medications, and observations during the test
  • Maintain equipment and clean electrodes according to infection control standards
  • Assist in long-term monitoring, sleep studies, and evoked potential studies as trained
  • Provide accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Communicate clearly with physicians, nursing staff, and patients
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
