About The Position

Under direct supervision, primarily performs basic research or lab activities similar to a Research Assistant 1 or Lab Aide. Research at the OHSU-SOD will include not only basic bench work in the laboratory but also learning how to design experiments. The summer will include lab meetings and learning how to keep a lab notebook and daily log of activities.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered undergraduate program of a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write and understand written and oral instructions in English
  • One year of high school level sciences such as biology or chemistry
  • Know how to use basic instrumentation in a laboratory and calculate basic math equations used to make buffers

Responsibilities

  • Independently using instrumentation and performing basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting and buffering solutions with a pH meter
  • Generating and analyzing data from experiments and collected health surveys
  • Learning how to design experiments
  • Keeping a lab notebook and daily log of activities
