About The Position

Non-Licensed Staff Mentors are experienced peer employees who provide structured onboarding support, guidance, and encouragement to newly hired non-licensed staff. The pilot non-LSM mentoring program will include two mentors per school and a mentor for the transportation and administration buildings. This is a stipend/voluntary extra-duty role for the school year.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a non-licensed role within the district
  • Not currently serving in a supervisory role
  • Satisfactory performance evaluation; supervisor recommendation or approval
  • Willingness to complete the required mentor training
  • Willingness to work with multiple mentees throughout the year including those with different roles
  • Strong technology skills, including standard Microsoft Office suite / Google Workspace, financial management, and data analysis.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of verbal and written instructions and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Mentor Training prior to the start of the program in August, gaining a clear understanding of program expectations, mentee needs, and available resources.
  • Meet with assigned mentees a minimum of twice monthly, following the meeting schedule established for the mentor's role category, to provide guidance, answer questions, and support the mentee's onboarding and success.
  • Submit brief monthly check-in information to the Mentoring Program Coordinator.
  • Attend group mentor/mentee gatherings to share best practices, discuss common challenges, and collaborate with fellow mentors to strengthen the overall program.
  • Complete an end-of-year Mentor Reflection Survey to provide feedback on the mentoring experience and contribute to continuous improvement of the program.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all conversations with mentees, disclosing information only when required due to a safety concern, mandatory reporting obligation, or serious policy violation.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, uphold district values, and help foster a welcoming, supportive culture for new staff throughout their onboarding experience.
  • Communicate clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups.
  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Calculate figures, estimates, proportions, percentages, and cost projections.
  • Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Build positive relationships with constituents of the District 113 community that includes students, teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, and private providers.
  • Be aware of, model and contribute to the maintenance and implementation of all District safety policies and procedures.
  • Use good safety awareness and judgment.
  • Follow policies.
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Follow manufacturer safety instructions when using equipment.
  • Follow agency ergonomic policies and procedures.
