About The Position

Non-Licensed Staff Mentors are experienced peer employees who provide structured onboarding support, guidance, and encouragement to newly hired non-licensed staff. The pilot non-LSM mentoring program will include two mentors per school and a mentor for the transportation and administration buildings.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of experience in a non-licensed role within the district
Not currently serving in a supervisory role
Satisfactory performance evaluation; supervisor recommendation or approval
Willingness to complete the required mentor training
Willingness to work with multiple mentees throughout the year including those with different roles

Responsibilities

Complete Mentor Training prior to the start of the program in August, gaining a clear understanding of program expectations, mentee needs, and available resources.
Meet with assigned mentees a minimum of twice monthly, following the meeting schedule established for the mentor's role category, to provide guidance, answer questions, and support the mentee's onboarding and success.
Submit brief monthly check-in information to the Mentoring Program Coordinator.
Attend group mentor/mentee gatherings to share best practices, discuss common challenges, and collaborate with fellow mentors to strengthen the overall program.
Complete an end-of-year Mentor Reflection Survey to provide feedback on the mentoring experience and contribute to continuous improvement of the program.
Maintain the confidentiality of all conversations with mentees, disclosing information only when required due to a safety concern, mandatory reporting obligation, or serious policy violation.
Demonstrate professionalism, uphold district values, and help foster a welcoming, supportive culture for new staff throughout their onboarding experience.
Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community.
Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups.
Apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Calculate figures, estimates, proportions, percentages, and cost projections.
Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Strong technology skills, including standard Microsoft Office suite / Google Workspace, financial management, and data analysis.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Interpret an extensive variety of verbal and written instructions and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
Build positive relationships with constituents of the District 113 community that includes students, teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, and private providers.
Use good safety awareness and judgment.
Follow policies.
Report potentially unsafe conditions.
Follow manufacturer safety instructions when using equipment.
Follow agency ergonomic policies and procedures.
