About The Position

Launch your career in academic librarianship through a hands-on, mentored internship that builds real-world skills and experience. The Duke University Medical Center Library invites applications to our paid, year-long, mentored internship. Applicants must be Master's students in a Library/Information Science program. Internships are 1 year with the potential to renew for a second year. This internship will help you develop skills for success in any academic library setting. Our interns gain experience across library departments and are true members of our library staff. We provide mentorship, skill development, and direct experience that will help you be competitive for positions in all kinds of academic libraries. Our previous interns have co-authored publications in scholarly journals, presented work at local and national conferences, and made significant contributions to our library.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a Master's degree Library/Information Science program.
  • Background in STEM or biomedicine is NOT REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the daily operations of the interlibrary loan service
  • Work on knowledgebase maintenance, including updating holdings to enable resource sharing
  • Monitor vendor updates in Alma
  • Provides staffing to the Service Desk as needed
  • Participate in bibliometric, research impact, and data visualization projects
  • Compile analytics on institutional publishing
  • Maintain library research guides
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives
  • Assist patrons with reference and research questions via chat, email, Zoom, and at the library service desk
  • Contribute to other projects and publications as needed
