About The Position

Burrtec is a well-established refuse and recycling collection company serving over fifteen municipalities throughout Southern California and employing over 1400 full-time employees. The driver plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and timely collection and proper disposal of either solid, green waste and/or recycling materials while adhering to all relevant safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License, required.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations or DUI within last 3 years.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to driving.
  • Be able to communicate in English and understand and complete route sheets, required.

Responsibilities

  • Drive permitted Class C license vehicles described as two-axel vehicle under 26,000 lbs., a vehicle towing a trailer, a housecar, and a three-axel vehicle under 6,000 lbs.
  • Drive flatbed, pick-up truck w/ trailer, or right of way van within a designated route and transport collection to designated off load site.
  • Exit and enter truck on a continuous basis.
  • Perform manual collection tasks by lifting and loading barrels, bulky items such as furniture, TVs, refrigerators, tires, and mattresses into truck.
  • Use three Points of Contact and be aware of surroundings at all times to ensure grippers and forks are always positioned in safe manner.
  • Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs promptly for repairs.
  • Represent Burrtec in a professional manner as a frontline representative.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and wear the assigned uniform.
  • Be courteous, respectful, and professional when interacting with customers and coworkers.
  • Address customer inquiries, requests, and complaints promptly and with empathy, striving to exceed customer expectations whenever possible.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while operating commercial vehicles.
  • Respect all company equipment by keeping the cab clean at all times and not obstruct or tamper with the on-board camera system.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards for waste transportation and disposal.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with supervisors, dispatchers, and fellow team members by using communication tools such as radios or on-board electronics to stay connected and informed throughout the workday.
  • Review and approve timecard on a weekly basis.
  • Follow meal period policy by taking 30-minute meal within 5th hour and a second 30-minute meal period by 10th hour if working 12 hours or more.
  • Maintain accurate records of waste collection activities, including logs, work orders, and route sheets.
  • Help on other routes as assigned.
  • Work over-time as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
