About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure patient comfort and care. This includes assisting with meals, maintaining patient hygiene, managing linens and supplies, ensuring patient rooms are clean and organized, and providing basic assistance to patients. The role also involves transporting patients, running errands, and communicating with nursing staff regarding patient needs and intake. A key aspect of the role is ensuring all patient belongings are properly labeled and maintained, and assisting with administrative tasks like updating inventory sheets. The position is within a long-term care, short-term rehab, skilled nursing, or sub-acute care setting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience not required
  • Must be tactful, courteous and cheerful in dealing with patients, visitors and staff

Responsibilities

  • Pass and pick up food trays after meals are finished and report patient intake to nursing staff.
  • Clean patient’s glasses.
  • Keep linen carts stocked and covered.
  • Fill water pitchers, offer drinks, and maintain clean pitchers and cups.
  • Remark water pitchers with patient’s name and room number.
  • Make beds when patients are out of bed.
  • Answer call bells and assist patients with basic needs or summon a nursing assistant for more complex requests.
  • Clean patient’s closets and drawers.
  • Remove excess hangers from closets.
  • Clean clutter in resident’s room after checking with the resident or nurse.
  • Clean and straighten overbed tables and nightstands.
  • Straighten linen/supply closets.
  • Wash bedpans and urinals.
  • Ensure all clothes and personal belongings are clearly labeled with the patient’s correct name and room number.
  • Check armbands and door tags, obtaining new ones from the secretary as needed.
  • Check patient’s personal items or clothing for need and take items for repair if necessary.
  • Transport patients in wheelchairs and Geri chairs to activities and dining room.
  • Clean utility rooms.
  • Clean underneath the desk at the nurse’s station.
  • Clean refrigerators as needed.
  • Read mail to patients upon request.
  • Run errands.
  • Take residents to and from the dining room.
  • Keep lids on barrels tightly.
  • Keep inventory sheets updated.
