About The Position

This position is responsible for moving loaded and empty trailers in and out of docks, and for the customer when needed, following all safety procedures. The driver will operate within the confines of the property and is NOT ALLOWED TO OPERATE on state and federal roadways. Responsibilities include performing daily yard checks, completing manual duties such as trailer inspections and opening/closing trailer doors, ensuring product or equipment is inspected and free of damage or contamination, completing paperwork and documentation accurately, using a basic computer or tablet, operating a handheld radio, maintaining daily housekeeping of the tractor, reporting inconsistencies to the Traffic Coordinator, and maintaining reliable attendance. All duties must be performed in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.

Requirements

Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally in a courteous and professional manner with others.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction.
Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
Ability to identify and compare letters and numbers.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as receivers, invoices, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to read and write simple sentences.
Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and management.
Ability to maintain a level of production that meets or exceeds the established guidelines.
Ability to work independently without interruptions.
Ability to complete necessary paperwork neatly and accurately and according to established guidelines.
Ability to verify paperwork necessary to ensure customer is receiving correct product.
Ability to inspect condition of product received and product going out to ensure quality.

One (1) year experience operating a yard hostler or similar equipment.
Basic computer or tablet skills; hand-held radio.
Valid Class driver’s license.
Must be able to meet insurance carriers’ criteria related to insurability.

Nice To Haves

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

Daily housekeeping of the tractor being operated that day.
Reports any inconsistencies to the Traffic Coordinator.
Reliable attendance at scheduled shifts.
Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
