About The Position

The Salem Hospital Emergency Department is seeking a seasoned Physician Assistant (PA) to work 36 hours per week over a 13-week schedule. This is a night shift position (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM), including weekends and holidays. Our PAs work under the supervision of physicians to provide high-quality, safe, and timely care to patients with various chief complaints. The PA team manages critically ill patients, performs high-acuity procedures, and conducts medical screening examinations to stabilize and treat patients in the Emergency Room. PAs may care for patients of all ages and support all areas of the department, including up to 50% of their shifts in the Medical Observation Unit. In the Medical Observation Unit, PAs are primarily responsible for admission orders, rounding on patients, overseeing the adult mental health unit, and writing daily progress and disposition notes. They also respond to acute issues, follow up on results, and determine patient disposition (admission or discharge). The Physician Assistant is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation.

Requirements

Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required

Nice To Haves

Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred
3+ years of ED experience preferred

Responsibilities

Manage very sick patients.
Handle various high acuity procedures.
Perform medical screening examinations to stabilize and treat patients.
Assume care for patients of all ages within the scope of professional practice guidelines.
Support all areas of the department, including working up to 50% of scheduled shifts in the Medical Observation Unit.
In the Medical Observation Unit, be primarily responsible for admission orders, rounding on patients, overseeing the adult mental health unit, and writing daily progress and disposition notes.
Respond to any acute issues that arise during the patients stay.
Follow up on results.
Determine if patients should be admitted or discharged.
Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
